Course Overview:

This course, designed for dental professionals, emphasizes the growing need for dentists to play a crucial role in the management of sleep-related breathing disorders (SRBD), such as obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) and snoring. With the rising prevalence of sleep disorders worldwide and their profound impact on patients’ health and quality of life, dentists are uniquely positioned to diagnose, treat, and manage these conditions.

Why This Course is Urgent:

Global Health Crisis: Sleep-related breathing disorders are significantly underdiagnosed, yet they are linked to major health risks such as cardiovascular disease, stroke, hypertension, and diabetes. Recent studies indicate that a large portion of the population remains untreated, making early identification and intervention critical.

Expanding Scope of Dentistry: Dentists, with their specialized knowledge of the oral and maxillofacial regions, are the ideal healthcare professionals to identify early signs of SRBD and offer effective treatment options. As the first line of defense, dentists can offer early detection through comprehensive screening, including the use of advanced diagnostic tools, and provide non-invasive therapeutic interventions such as oral appliance therapy.

Patient-Centered Care: A multidisciplinary approach, including the collaboration between sleep specialists, physicians, and dentists, enhances patient outcomes. As healthcare providers who already manage patient care from a unique perspective, dentists must step up to bridge the gap in addressing the growing demand for effective treatment of sleep disorders.
